Stephen Smyth is an associate in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Mr. Smyth currently handles bankruptcy matters and complex civil matters in both state and federal courts, focusing on litigation defense in the areas of professional liability, product liability, premises liability, trucking and transportation, and business litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Smyth practiced for fifteen years as a consumer bankruptcy attorney. Mr. Smyth has represented debtors, business owners, and businesses in chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy proceedings. He has also represented debtors and creditors in non-dischargeability claims in several adversary proceedings. Mr. Smyth has also negotiated reduced settlement with creditors to resolve accounts where bankruptcy was not a viable option and debt collection efforts have been escalated.
Mr. Smyth has also successfully represented administrators and heirs in probate proceedings to determine issues regarding internal affairs of trusts, transfers of property belonging to decedents, and trust administration.
Mr. Smyth attended Whittier Law School where he was a member of the law review. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Smyth attended the University of California, Irvine, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Psychology.
Mr. Smyth is admitted to practice before all California state court and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
