Peter John Ippolito
(1941–2021)

With profound sadness, we mourn the loss of our partner and friend, Peter Ippolito, who passed away of natural causes on January 22, 2021. Peter was a 55-year lawyer, a renowned mediator and arbitrator, and the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. His proudest achievements, however, were his four children, Kristin, Erin, Gina, and John, and his seven grandchildren, Reeve, Brooke, Merrick, John, Gino, Peter, and Michael.

Peter spent the first 52 years of his career at Hillyer & Irwin, McKenna, Long & Aldridge, and finally, Dentons. Somehow, and thankfully, he found his way to Lagasse Branch Bell + Kinkead. Peter wanted something smaller and more personal for his final years of practice, and thought our firm had something special. We knew from day one we were getting the better end of the deal. Peter brought a half century of experience to our firm and we all benefited from his legal guidance, grounded perspectives, humble stories, and the advice for which he was famous: “Get over it!” He was an old soul who was still young at heart and he brought a great sense of comfort to anyone in his presence. He was an exceptional athlete, a Notre Dame graduate, an Army Ranger, a Vietnam veteran (two tours) and Bronze Star recipient, an art collector, a fantastic cook, a lover of music, and a patriot. He was tough as nails yet sweet as pie.

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of condolences we have received over the past two weeks and feel blessed to have worked with someone so admired and respected in our legal community. Peter’s passing is a devastating loss. He will be forever missed and remembered always.
